Lovers I Had and Liked is an introspective exploration of queer intimacy, delving into the intricate ways we navigate interpersonal relationships as a means of solidarity and survival. This body of work highlights the kinship forged within our networks of friends and lovers, which serves as a vital tool in our resistance against assimilation, homophobia, and heteropatriarchy. Through our bonds and closeness with one another, we cultivate the strength and vulnerability necessary to sustain our most audacious dreams and futures. The project was inspired by a gift from my ex-boyfriend—a novelty journal of the same title—that encapsulated the essence of our enduring friendship, even after our romantic relationship had ended. In the early stages of this endeavor, I photographed him with his current partner, an experience that provided a profound sense of closure and affirmation, further enriching the narrative of connection and resilience that defines this work.
